Butler, who started Mongabay in 1999 was recently awarded the prestigious S.E.A.L. Environmental Journalism Award. (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement, & Leadership). S.E.A.L Awards is an organization that fights for environmental & climate advocacy while also funding research & pursuing their own environmental impact campaigns. The nomination process for this award is not done through submissions or applications but instead S.E.A.L considers all environmental journalists covering crucial ecological topics. Along with many other winners Mongabay sets an example for journalism & news coverage everywhere to emphasize the importance of informing the public about the pending environmental dangers and the importance of protecting these ecosystems, which in turn help protect our own homes and communities.
