Supergirl and DC Comics

Growing up we all enjoyed many DC comic classics, including Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, & Justice League. My personal favorite had to be Catwoman with her quick-witted acrobatic moves, stealthily stealing the most rarest of diamonds. It’s no surprise that after Halle Berry’s 2004 feature film debut she became a Halloween costume favorite. I myself have had the pleasure of dressing up in a laced up latex Catwoman costume myself. What a fascinating night to remember, out on the town feeling like the original herself! Since then, DC comics has gone on to produce cult classics such as Suicide Squad, with the infamous Harley Quinn (another Halloween favorite) the Dark Night Rises, with Heath Ledgers phenomenal riveting performance, & Man of Steel. Not only are they one of the most successful movie franchises in the world, but they originally got their start being an actual “comic” book humoring readers with western comedic artwork formerly known as the “funnies.” In autumn of 1934, when entrepreneur Malcom Wheeler Nicholson founded National Allied Publications, & after a rich history of featured anthologies, Wheeler-Nicholson premiered the final original title in March of 1937 “Detective Comics,” which is now known as the celebrated & renowned “DC comics.” Sister company “Action Comics” founded in June of 1938 featured the first well-known worldwide favorite superhero archetype Superman, who was the original comic book superhero drawn by artist Joe Shuster & writer Jerry Siegel. What superhero doesn’t need a reliable sidekick & partner, & who better than the still up & coming Supergirl herself who’s first comic book debut in Action Comics in May of 1959. With the original name of Kara Zoe-El she was said to be the daughter of Superman's uncle Zor-El & aunt Alura In-Ze, good to know that superhero powers run in the family! Drawn by Al Plastino & written by Otto Binder who also created Mary Marvel, Captain Marvels sister & Marvel Comics Miss America based off of her co-star Captain America, Superman, Supergirl & many others continue to be proud representations of our American culture, freedom, liberty and brave heroism!
